About Marius and Twiggy

Marius was born in the Netherlands, and grew up a city boy. He spent summers on his uncle's farm outside of the city, where he developed a love for farming. Following his interests, he attended Wageningen University where he took agricultural studies, specializing in animal nutrition.

He first came to Canada through a three-month summer practicum program with Co-Op Feats in Edmonton. His uncle immigrated to Canada and started a farm outside of Millet, where Marius also spent time during his stay. He returned to Canada a second time for a six-month research project at the University of Alberta on animal nutrition.

Marius decided to immigrate to Canada after returning to the Netherlands and finishing school. He immigrated to Canada in 1991, and initially he didn't move in order to farm. He worked on family farms until 1996 when he bought Four Whistle Farm. He has been in his stall at the Old Strathcona Farmer's Market since 2003, providing fresh, wholesome meat directly to the Edmonton community.

Twiggy immigrated to Canada in 1984 from South Africa and works with the Alberta government to support the farm. She and Marius were married in 1997.
